About Chad Spann

North Central Grad, NFL Running Back, Football Coach & Mentor

Deep Roots in Washington Township & a Legacy of Excellence

Chad Spann is a 2007 North Central High School graduate where he was a first-team all-state selection during his senior season. He still holds the school’s single-season and career rushing yardage and touchdown records, cementing his place as one of the greatest players in Panther history.

After high school, Spann played at Northern Illinois University, where he established a new single-season touchdown record and won the Vern Smith Leadership Award, given to the Mid-American Conference’s top player. In 2022, he was inducted into the Northern Illinois University Hall of Fame. He ranks second in school history with 49 career rushing touchdowns and 2,916 rushing yards, while his 5.44 yards per carry ranks among the top in school history. He posted 10 career 100-yard rushing games as a Huskie.

Following his playing career, Spann has dedicated himself to coaching and mentoring the next generation of athletes. He serves as a Head Coach for the FBU All-American Bowl and volunteers as the Treasurer for the Indianapolis NFL Players Association and the Retired Professional Football Players of Indiana. His passion for football, leadership, and community service is deeply tied to his upbringing in Washington Township, and he remains committed to giving back to the district that helped shape him.

His connection to Washington Township runs much deeper than football. His family has been part of the WT community for over 50 years, shaping and serving the district across multiple generations. Spann’s grandmother became the first Black teacher at Crooked Creek Elementary in 1968, dedicating 28 years to education. His mother, a nurse, led health programs at North Central for over 20 years and also served 12 years on the Washington Township School Board. His aunt is now in her 46th year of teaching in the district and has never taught anywhere else. Spann’s family legacy at North Central includes his mother, two aunts, two uncles, and stepfather—all alumni. His siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins continue that tradition as past, present, and future Panthers.
